But when March 1 ends, expressions of appreciation and recognition should not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are tips to make your workers feel appreciated all year\nlong: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1. Show you care about their professional development.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Supervisors should feel invested in their employees\u2019 improvement. Suggest a panel discussion they might find interesting, send them a link to a webinar that could improve their skills or encourage them to attend a conference. Alert your employees to growth opportunities, such <a href=\"https:\/\/ourpublicservice.org\/programs\/\">as the Partnership\u2019s leadership programs<\/a>. When your employees improve, your organization improves, too. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2. Create opportunities for employees to offer feedback\u2014and adjust the workplace accordingly.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Don\u2019t administer a survey just to fulfill a requirement or\nto appear interested in employees\u2019 opinions. Explain why you\u2019re gathering\nfeedback and why you value their insights about particular topics. When people\nknow that honest responses can influence the organization, they will feel more\ncompelled to respond openly to questions about what you\u2019re doing well and how\nyou can enhance their experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3. Promote comprehensive wellness. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Demanding the best from your employees is a natural part of\nbeing a manager. But so is making sure they\u2019re not overworked. Are certain\nemployees repeatedly leaving the office when it\u2019s dark outside and coming in\nthe next morning before the sun rises? Don\u2019t just recognize them for their\ncommitment\u2014make sure they\u2019re okay. If they seem stressed, advocate for their\nneeds and relieve them of some responsibilities if possible. Offer employees\naccess to healthy snacks or even a spot where they can step away from their\ncomputers to sit quietly and reflect. Checking in on others\u2019 wellness may not\nbe listed explicitly in your job description, but it\u2019s the right thing to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You may say thank you this Employee Appreciation Day, but\nmake sure your year-round actions back up those words. Remember that\nrecognizing your employees does not have to break the bank.
