WASHINGTON \u2013 The nonpartisan, nonprofit Partnership for Public Service<\/a> today released the following statement from President and CEO Max Stier<\/strong> on changes in Senate procedure to allow for multiple nominees to be confirmed as a group:  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cPolitical appointees carry enormous responsibilities in executing the functions of government. The Senate, too, has an enormous responsibility to thoroughly vet and confirm them expeditiously.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhile the Partnership has long supported reforms to the Senate confirmation process, including bundling nominees, this rule lacks necessary guardrails to ensure that the American people are getting the most highly qualified leaders to run their government.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

“This move allows the Senate to bundle an unlimited number of agency-level leadership positions into a single vote. Senators from both parties should be able to consider the qualifications of nominees for critical roles like the FBI director, IRS commissioner and U.S Attorneys on an individual basis. The Senate must limit the number of bundled nominees per vote and reserve bundling for lower-level positions. They should also require completed committee and ethics paperwork from nominees prior to final consideration.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAny bundling procedure must balance efficiency with thorough vetting of nominees for critical positions.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n
