Consider highlighting the following attributes when <a href=\"https:\/\/ourpublicservice.org\/blog\/private-sector-resume-former-federal-employee-transition-fedsupport-federal-employee-explainer-series\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">creating a private sector resume<\/a>:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Trajectory of your career. Tell your story\u2014this gives employers a holistic picture of who you are.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Language that mirrors the job description.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Examples of how you have created value, such as generating revenue, improving processes, reducing risk, or meeting customer needs.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Your achievements and leadership experience.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Quantitative descriptors (Ex. team size, budget amount).&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-can-a-former-federal-employee-stand-out-in-the-applicant-pool-nbsp\">How can a former federal employee stand out in the applicant pool?&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Many firms use sourcing rather than advertising to fill open positions. Once you have determined the industry, company or position you are seeking, reach out to your network or develop new relationships with people in your desired field to inquire about vacancies.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During conversations with recruiters or current employees, provide your resume and convey your understanding of the organization, the role for which you are applying, the individual with whom you are connecting and your specific interests. Authenticity and enthusiasm can go a long way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-should-applicants-discuss-work-on-targeted-programs-such-as-deia-nbsp\">How should applicants discuss work on targeted programs such as DEIA?&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Although corporate language has changed under the current administration, many organizations have not altered their internal commitments to diversity and inclusion. Do not be afraid to talk about your experiences, especially if an organization has pushed back against recent moves away from diversity initiatives. On a fundamental level, most companies still believe that having different perspectives in the workplace is valuable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-how-can-current-federal-employees-prepare-themselves-for-a-career-transition-in-advance-of-a-separation-nbsp\">How can current federal employees prepare themselves for a career transition in advance of a separation?&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>For federal employees who have not yet <a href=\"https:\/\/ourpublicservice.org\/blog\/insights-on-deferred-resignations-probationary-periods-reductions-in-force-and-reassignments-in-the-federal-government-federal-employee-explainer-series-webinar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">separated from the civil service<\/a> but are uncertain about their longevity, consider preparing the following materials:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>A polished resume <\/strong>tailored to a specific job description.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>A strong <a href=\"https:\/\/ourpublicservice.org\/blog\/partnership-webinar-offers-linkedin-job-search-tips-for-terminated-federal-employee-explainer-series\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">LinkedIn profile<\/a>.<\/strong> Include a professional photo and highlight your skills and accomplishments.
