Program Structure<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul style=\"font-size:18px\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Cohort-based learning:<\/strong>&nbsp;Fellows are placed in&nbsp;cohorts of up to 30 government leaders led by an experienced executive coach.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Virtual sessions<\/strong>:\u00a0EXPSL consists of five, multi-day\u00a0sessions spread across\u00a0the\u00a0year.\u00a0Each of our five sessions are\u00a0three days long,\u00a0providing\u00a0fellows with\u00a0an immersive experience\u00a0that\u00a0leaves\u00a0ample\u00a0time to\u00a0digest\u00a0program\u00a0content\u00a0and\u00a0build lasting relationships.\u00a0Multi-week breaks between\u00a0sessions\u00a0enable\u00a0fellows\u00a0to\u00a0reflect on program content,\u00a0apply lessons on the job,\u00a0and\u00a0identify\u00a0real-life challenges to workshop in\u00a0the future.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Two one-on-one coaching&nbsp;sessions<\/strong>: Fellows&nbsp;also receive two individual,&nbsp;one-hour&nbsp;sessions with their executive coach. During this time, fellows&nbsp;use&nbsp;a&nbsp;360 leadership&nbsp;assessment tool to&nbsp;delve deeper into their leadership&nbsp;development&nbsp;needs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\" id=\"2-leadership-content\">2. Leadership Content<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul style=\"font-size:18px\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>EXPSL\u00a0aligns with the\u00a0<a href=\"\/leadership\/public-service-leadership-model\/\">Public Service Leadership Model<\/a>, the standard for effective government leadership.\u00a0The model\u00a0outlines\u00a0the\u00a0core values of\u00a0government\u00a0service\u2014stewardship of public trust and commitment to public good\u2014along with\u00a0four\u00a0key competencies\u00a0that\u00a0all\u00a021<sup>st<\/sup>-century leaders need:\u00a0becoming self-aware, engaging others, leading\u00a0change,\u00a0and achieving results.\u00a0<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sessions focus on the specific capabilities public servants need to advance their careers,  emphasizing hands-on practice of those skills.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fellows who complete the program in full can receive a certification of completion of learning hours.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading has-medium-font-size\" id=\"3-program-components\">3. Program Components<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul style=\"font-size:18px\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Coursework<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The EXPSL program utilizes various learning tools, including simulations and case studies, facilitated discussions, readings, videos, leadership assessments (e.g., Public Service Leadership 360 and the Thomas-Kilmann Conflict Model), and hands-on activities, to achieve the learning objectives of each session. To ensure the program offers the highest quality experience, we continually refresh our educational materials. Our lessons reflect the latest knowledge and best practices, and our case studies examine how government employees confront modern challenges. We use evaluation tools to measure learning and adapt the program to fellows\u2019 needs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Guest Speakers<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>The EXPSL program brings in\u202fguest speakers who\u202fenable participants to\u202fconnect classroom lessons to real-world\u202fsituations. These experiences\u202foffer\u202fparticipants a behind-the-scenes\u202flook\u202fat innovative\u202fleaders\u202fand organizations\u202ffrom\u202fthe\u202fpublic, private,\u202fnonprofit,\u202fand\u202facademic\u202fsectors. By\u202fengaging\u202fwith\u202fthese leaders\u202fdirectly, EXPSL fellows\u202fmake\u202fnew\u202fconnections and\u202fwitness leadership\u202fin action.\u00a0\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Impact Projects<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>EXPSL participants\u202fapply\u202fcourse concepts to\u202fcreate\u202fa results-driven, action-learning project\u202fthat aims to\u202ftackle\u202fa\u202fcomplex issue\u202frelevant to their work.\u202fThroughout the program, fellows work\u202fwith their\u202fprogram\u202fcoaches and a peer support group to\u202fsee projects\u202fthrough from\u202fstart\u202fto\u202ffinish.\u202fKey tasks include\u202fdefining outcomes, finding\u202fsponsors, building\u202fbuy-in,\u202fcreating deliverables, and more.\u202f\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Coaching<\/strong>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Coaching\u00a0and feedback\u00a0are critical elements of leadership development. Each session occurs approximately every two months and is three days long.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\">The program includes a two-hour virtual orientation session.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\">During the year-long program, fellows remain in their full-time jobs. Fellows also devote up to three hours per week to their impact projects and session pre-work. Fellows are expected to attend all sessions, so applicants should review the class schedule and confirm their availability before applying for the program. Exceptions are made for family and work-related emergencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\">Once accepted into the program, each fellow will be assigned to a cohort led by an executive coach. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:18px\">Each fellow will also attend a&nbsp;<strong>mandatory two-hour virtual orientation session&nbsp;<\/strong>conducted via Zoom for Government.
