Yet today, they are being subjected to a dangerous and arbitrary campaign to slash the civil service, close federal agencies and offices, and disrupt their work on behalf of the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These unprecedented actions are damaging our government and undermining a 140-year consensus on the need for a professional, nonpartisan federal workforce that serves the public above any private interest or agenda.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To shine a national spotlight on all that federal employees do for our country and to build public support for protecting the government\u2019s apolitical workforce, we collaborated with a group of celebrated writers to profile civil servants for The Washington Post\u2019s \u201cWho Is Government?\u201d series, now a book<\/a> edited by bestselling author Michael Lewis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The book pulls back the curtain<\/a> on civil servants who ensure the public good\u2014from revolutionizing mine safety and returning billions to victims of cybercrime to ensuring military veterans receive a proper burial and protecting the American consumer.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
