The website collects the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ai.gov\/documents\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">laws, regulations, plans and reports<\/a> that guide federal AI work; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ai.gov\/news-and-events\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">news<\/a> about AI\u2019s use in the public and private sectors; and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ai.gov\/about\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">information<\/a> on government\u2019s AI committees and task forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>AI promises breakthroughs in all aspects of government\u2019s work, from predicting future events to interacting with citizens to paperwork processing. The AI.gov website highlights this potential, as successive presidential administrations recognize AI\u2019s growing importance in every aspect of our professional and personal lives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The White House launched the website after the National Artificial Intelligence Initiative Act became law earlier this year. That law aims to connect and coordinate federal agencies\u2019 AI work to ensure the United States remains a world leader in researching, developing and using this groundbreaking technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The federal government\u2019s AI activities picked up steam in 2016 with the publication of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nitrd.gov\/pubs\/national_ai_rd_strategic_plan.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">National Artificial Intelligence Research and Development Strategic Plan<\/a>, which guided federal investments in AI technologies, and the report, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/obamawhitehouse.archives.gov\/sites\/default\/files\/whitehouse_files\/microsites\/ostp\/NSTC\/preparing_for_the_future_of_ai.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Preparing for the Future of Artificial Intelligence<\/a>,\u201d which reviewed the state of AI and how federal agencies might take full advantage of its possibilities. AI.gov is just the latest step in government\u2019s AI journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In 2017, the Partnership for Public Service undertook its first research effort to analyze AI\u2019s potential for making government more effective. Since then, we\u2019ve published six publications on different aspects of AI in federal, state and local governments:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/ourpublicservice.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/0c1b8914d59b94dc0a5115b739376c90-1515436519.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Future Has Begun<\/a>,\u201d a report on the potential uses of AI in government, from automating tedious tasks to conquering the complexities of federal acquisitions to helping vulnerable populations.<\/li><li>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/ourpublicservice.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/More-Than-Meets-AI.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">More Than Meets AI<\/a>,\u201d a white paper on a future in which AI is a critical part of federal employees\u2019 workdays.<\/li><li>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/ourpublicservice.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/07\/More-Than-Meets-AI-2.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">More Than Meets AI Part II<\/a>,\u201d a white paper on overcoming AI challenges from bias and ethics to transparency and security.<\/li><li>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/ourpublicservice.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/05\/Cracking-the-Code.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Cracking the Code<\/a>,\u201d a report on how AI\u2014along with immersive technologies and edge computing\u2014is helping agencies achieve the mission.<\/li><li>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/ourpublicservice.org\/publications\/into-the-storm-using-artificial-intelligence-to-improve-californias-disaster-resilience\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Into the Storm<\/a>,\u201d a white paper on AI\u2019s potential to help states most at risk for natural disasters prevent the loss of life and property.<\/li><li>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/ourpublicservice.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/11\/Bit-by-Bit.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Bit by Bit<\/a>,\u201d a white paper on how AI and other technologies helped government navigate the COVID-19 pandemic and continue serving the public.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Artificial intelligence \u201chas become one of the most impactful technologies of the twenty-first century,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ai.gov\/naiio-directors-corner-march-09-2021\/\">wrote<\/a> Lynne Parker, deputy federal chief technology officer, when AI.gov was launched.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through the National AI Initiative, with AI.gov as its public face, the federal government is taking concrete steps to ensure America\u2019s lead in the AI field.
