And it\u2019s clear from our work with federal leaders that these values are resonating as the nation navigates these turbulent and uncertain times. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The model is particularly important now as the public turns\nto leaders to listen to their concerns, share a vision of hope and make\nthoughtful decisions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The model emphasizes the core values unique to public\nservice: stewardship of public trust and commitment to public good. And it identifies\nthe critical competencies leaders must master to achieve their desired impact. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The strong positive response we\u2019ve received confirms\nthe need for a clear standard in public service leadership. But we didn\u2019t want\nto stop with a resonant concept. Since its release we\u2019ve put the model into\naction and provided additional resources and tools to support federal leaders\nin their ongoing development. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Recently, <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/hbr.org\/2020\/04\/a-nonpartisan-model-for-developing-public-service-leadership\" target=\"_blank\">the Harvard Business Review published our article <\/a>highlighting the model\u2019s practical uses. And we <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/ourpublicservice.org\/our-work\/public-service-leadership-model\/\" target=\"_blank\">updated our website<\/a> to help federal leaders incorporate the model into their own leadership development, providing reflective questions and resources, including videos and blog posts from our <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/ourpublicservice.org\/programs\/government-leadership-advisory-council\/\" target=\"_blank\">Government Leadership Advisory Council<\/a>. We\u2019ve also launched <a href=\"https:\/\/ourpublicservice.org\/programs\/foundations-in-public-service-leadership-program\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">new programs<\/a> centered on the model\u2019s core tenets and made significant changes to our existing professional development courses, such as the <a href=\"https:\/\/ourpublicservice.org\/programs\/excellence-in-government-fellows-program\/\">Excellence in Government Fellows program<\/a>, to align them with the model\u2019s leadership competencies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And we\u2019re just getting started. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What\u2019s next for the leadership model<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In an exciting development, we\u2019re integrating our\nrecently released Public Service Leadership 360 Assessment Tool into our\nprograms and partnering with agencies that want to use it to assess their\nemployees. The 360 assessment provides leaders with a broad view of their\nleadership style, and insights into how their perspective differs or aligns\nwith those of their colleagues. If the leadership model is a map to help\nfederal leaders identify the destination of their leadership journey, the 360\nassessment serves as a compass, providing guidance and focus so they can strengthen\ntheir self-awareness to shift their management behaviors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If all federal leaders grounded themselves in the core\nvalues and harnessed the key competencies from the model, we would have a\nstronger government and stronger country, better equipped to respond to crises like\nthose we\u2019re navigating today.
