So the question becomes, what are the best ways for supervisors to increase employee engagement? Here are three: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ensure employees&#8217; skills are aligned with the agency&#8217;s mission.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>When employees can see that their skills and talents are used effectively and understand how their roles help advance their organization\u2019s mission, they experience greater satisfaction and are <a href=\"https:\/\/bestplacestowork.org\/analysis\/categories\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">more engaged in their work<\/a>. And that makes them more productive and efficient. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Have regular conversations with your employees to gauge how they see themselves fitting in with your agency\u2019s or organizations\u2019s mission. Help them by clarifying their roles and drawing connections between their work and your team\u2019s impact. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Prioritize employees&#8217; professional development. <\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Supervisors who prioritize their employees\u2019 professional\ndevelopment create a better work environment. Employees have room to grow,\nlearn new skills and apply those new skills on the job. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Work with your employees to identify growth opportunities to aid them in improving their skills and advancing in their careers. Encourage them to participate in professional development opportunities such as shadowing programs, rotational assignments and training courses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Recognize employees&#8217; achievements.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Showing appreciation for employees lets them know their\nwork matters, and that they are valued. As each employee will have a different\npreference for how to be recognized, discuss with them how they would like to\nbe praised. Commend people in a timely fashion and make sure your words and\nactions match their level of effort and the impact of their work.
