{"id":14460,"date":"2019-12-12T21:32:46","date_gmt":"2019-12-13T02:32:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/opsweb.wpengine.com\/?p=14460"},"modified":"2024-08-05T16:53:58","modified_gmt":"2024-08-05T20:53:58","slug":"pull-accomplished-government-employees-onto-the-red-carpet-and-watch-the-fun-begin","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ourpublicservice.org\/blog\/pull-accomplished-government-employees-onto-the-red-carpet-and-watch-the-fun-begin\/","title":{"rendered":"Pull accomplished government employees onto the red carpet, and watch the fun begin"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>It was clear from his laughter that U.S. Coast Guard oceanographer Arthur Allen had never been asked before, \u201cWho are you wearing and what were you regulating?\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Samantha Bee\u2019s \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=_jLvlUWZ3Dw\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Full Frontal with Samantha Bee<\/a>\u201d on\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.tbs.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TBS<\/a>\u00a0captured the incredible accomplishments of federal employees with waggish good humor Wednesday night, highlighting honorees who attended the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/servicetoamericamedals.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2019 Service to America Medals Awards<\/a>\u00a0gala October 16.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bee&nbsp;praised&nbsp;federal employees&nbsp;for doing \u201ctons to keep civilization going,\u201d&nbsp;including \u201csaving thousands from floods, the flu, lava or loose nukes.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There were a few sober moments during the \u201cSam, Sam, Sammies,\u201d or \u201cSammies<sup>3<\/sup>\u201d\u2014as Full Frontal referred to its show involving a Samantha, a Samuel, and an awards program called the Sammies. But just a few.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGood government starts with good people, and those people should be honored for their service,\u201d said Max Stier, the&nbsp;Partnership\u2019s&nbsp;president and CEO.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cGovernment workers get a bad rap because most Americans don\u2019t recognize that they\u2019re the ones providing all these great services,\u201d&nbsp;he added.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Stier&nbsp;named&nbsp;429&nbsp;ways our&nbsp;government&nbsp;serves Americans and others,&nbsp;starting with&nbsp;protecting us&nbsp;from foreign adversaries, making&nbsp;sure&nbsp;our&nbsp;food&nbsp;is safe and rescuing people&nbsp;at sea.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019ll have to watch&nbsp;the show&nbsp;to understand the&nbsp;\u201c429\u201d&nbsp;gag and&nbsp;hear&nbsp;the longer list&nbsp;of&nbsp;government&nbsp;programs,&nbsp;which&nbsp;include&nbsp;keeping our&nbsp;air&nbsp;safe to&nbsp;breathe, rebuilding after national disasters, eradicating polio&nbsp;and setting up&nbsp;the&nbsp;Do Not Call Registry.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou get the point,\u201d Bee said. \u201cThe list of critical programs is huge,\u201d and&nbsp;success&nbsp;depends&nbsp;on&nbsp;\u201cselfless, hard-working experts.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In all, Full Frontal interviewers&nbsp;Mike Rubens, Allana Harkin and Naomi Ekperigan&nbsp;spoke with eight honorees.
